4r70w overdrive problem
It was an easy problem to correct inside the ECU programming, but that wasn't employs four forward gears, plus one reverse: Fourth gear is Overdrive.

16 posts - 7 authors - Last post: 14 Janare the same, but internally, the 4R70W has a wider-ratio gearset. That would pretty much only get you the wider overdrive band. One problem with the stock AOD is that it locks up in 3&4 gears.

Ford question: My 97 Mercury Mountaineer with a 4r70w transmission is shifting at high rpm, and it appears that the overdrive button is not working.
Likely not a problem if you live in the new mexico desert, but a sure way. parts such a mechanical diode, 2" wide overdrive band, and needle bearings.

15 posts - 6 authors - Last post: 30 Jun4R has an button for the overdrive select/deselect on the shifter. BTW, you can also use a 4R70W from a 5.0 Explorer/Moutaineer.
(starting to lose Over-drive now soI guess I have to act pretty quickly) I am going to try replacing the MLPS and hope that takes care of my problem.
